Removal of Mercury Vapor from the Air in Dental Offices Using a Silver Nanoparticle-Based Purifier
Mercury is a toxic pollutant with bioaccumulation potential that has harmful effects on the environment and human health. In this regard, significant efforts have been made to remove mercury from the environment. Silver nanoparticles are among the materials with high potential for absorbing mercury and forming mercury amalgam. The aim of this study is to remove mercury vapor from the air in dental offices using a silver nanoparticle-based purification system.
The purifier, based on a foam coated with silver nanoparticles, has high potential for removing mercury vapor from the air in dental offices due to advantages such as ease of use, high adsorption capacity, and cost-effectiveness.
The results of this study confirm the fact that exposure to mercury, even at low concentrations, increases the prevalence of poisoning symptoms among dentists, and it is possible to protect individuals from the potential adverse effects of mercury poisoning.
