Performing dental procedures for these patients in local clinics is often not feasible due to lack of cooperation. Moreover, maintaining oral hygiene for these individuals is challenging due to their vulnerability, often requiring procedures to be carried out in an operating room.Dental hygienists play a critical role alongside dentists and anesthesia teams in providing care to special needs patients. With their strong background and focus on health promotion, they also educate patients and their families, contributing significantly to the prevention of oral diseases. Their specialized training and practical experience allow for faster, more efficient work in the operating room.Benefits of this approach for patients and their families include: education and prevention, reduced treatment risks, shorter treatment times, and care delivered in a less stressful environment.
